RAF is responsible animal fibre and contains three sub-standards, namely RWS (Responsible Wool Standard), RMS (Responsible Mohair Standard) and RAS (Responsible alpaca Wool standard).
Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) is responsible for the welfare of sheep and the land they graze during the production phase of livestock farming. At the processing chain stage, RWS follows CCS regulatory principles and requirements and traces RWS wool all the way to the end product.
RWS requires all parts of the supply chain to be certified,, starting with the wool grower, then the seller of the final transaction. The final certification is usually required for clothing manufacturers or brands, and retailers (businesses and consumers) do not need certification.
Responsible alpaca standard (RAS) for the industry to provide a tool to identify the farmer's best practices. Ensure that alpaca comes from farms that employ a progressive approach to land management, with full respect for animal welfare and respect for the five freedoms of animal welfare. Ensure that certified materials have a strong chain of custody as they move through the supply chain.
Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS) deals with animal welfare on goat farms and the chain of custody of mohair from certified farm to final product. Each production and processing trade link is certified by an independent third-party certification body through an annual audit.Materials are tracked from farm to final product using a TC trading certificate, following the requirements of the Textile Exchange's Content Claims Standard (CCS).
